The Artisan Childcare Center provides high quality childcare with an emphasis on the arts for children aged 6 weeks through 6 years. We offer a uniquely balanced curriculum that embraces the natural curiosity of childhood, while introducing children to the creative learning process through exposure to developmentally appropriate arts programming.
The Artisan Childcare Center is a new state-of-the-art "green" facility nestled on two acres of beautifully maintained grounds where children will enjoy various outdoor activities, such as our Children's Gardening Program.
We are conveniently located right off of Interstate 95/128 on the Woburn/Burlington line, and minutes away from Winchester, Lexington, and Arlington. Additionally we are excited to announce the opening of our new facility in Newtown Center in 2014!
Philosophy
Three main components comprise the Artisan Childcare Center philosophy: Quality Childcare, Arts Programming, and "Green" Initiative.
Quality Childcare: Artisan Childcare Center offers children aged 3 months through 5 years old a safe environment for them to ask questions and explore the world in which they live with their peers and teachers. Our curriculum is the vehicle in which we deliver an enriched educational program to all children.
Our team of college-educated early-childhood teachers support the growth of each child by personalizing the curriculum to meet the child's developmental needs. Each lesson and curriculum theme is developed and implemented by our team of professional educators.
Our classroom environments are designed with the child in mind. The child-sized furniture allows children to move about the environment easily and recognize that the space is designed for them. The wide array of materials and toys in the classroom allows the children to feel confident in their skills by finding familiar activities. The space is also designed to spark their curiosity as they explore and discover new materials. Through interactions with their peers, teachers, and the intriguing materials that fill their classrooms, children cultivate a lifelong love of learning.
Arts Programming: "Researchers have found evidence that young children who take music lessons show different brain development and improved memory over the course of a year compared to children who do not receive musical training."
These findings, published in the online edition of the journal Brain (20 September 2006), show that "not only do the brains of musically trained children respond to music in a different way to those of the untrained children, but also that the training improves their memory as well. After one year the musically trained children performed better in a memory test that is correlated with general intelligence skills such as literacy, verbal memory, visio-spatial processing, mathematics and IQ." (Science Daily, 2006)
Exposing children to music instruction is not just about learning to play an instrument, but helps builds self esteem, improves academics, and enhances literacy skills. We believe that early-childhood arts education can play an important role in the overall development of productive, well-adjusted children.
"Green" Initiative: In addition to a strong early childhood and music program, our Center will also educate children as to what it means to be "green." The Center was just renovated to be a "green facility," with renewable bamboo flooring, low VOC paint, and energy-efficient lighting and appliances. The Center participates in "single stream" recycling that allows us to recycle glass, plastics, paper, cardboard, and metal, all in the same bin.
Artisan has approximately two acres of green outdoor play space for children to explore nature, build castles in our large sand area, or climb up to the "observation deck" in our play structure. We also have a vegetable garden and compost center where children can help plant and grow their own snacks! Our students will be active participants in helping maintain our green facility by participating in recycling and learning about how they can impact the protection of our physical environment. At Artisan, we believe that teaching children how to be stewards of their environment (both indoors and out) builds a sense of responsibility and respect that will follow them into the future.
